Boston. On Monday last died here, after a few days illness,
exceedingly lamented, that pious and singularly ingenious
young gentleman, Mr. Edward Bromfield, jun, M.A. in the 23d
year of his age; eldest son of Mr. Edward Bromfield of this
town, merchant.
Mr. Draper. Boston, Aug. 21. 1746.
One of the rising and most shining ornaments of his country,
young Mr. Bromfield, his surprizing mathematical genius,
super-added to an excelling piety and modesty, drew the eyes
and attention of all that knew him. . . [1 para.]
I send you a few lines, wrote a year and half past, by a
young gentlewoman, deceased, as soon as she came home from
his chamber, where with some select friends, she had been
beholding the wonders of his microscope, displaying the
invisible glories of God in the minutest parts of his
visible works.
" Bromfield, I join your raised act of praise:
To your own pitch my grov'ling soul you raise.
A thousand untho't glories you display
In every mote, by your inchanting ray. . .
. . . [14 lines.]
[Ed: Bromfield built the first organ in Boston.]
